Use Self-Renovation to Consistently Improve Your Life

by DeLores Pressley

It is common to hear about people doing renovations and making improvements on their bathrooms, their kitchens, and their basements. People love doing renovations on living spaces and updating rooms to be more functional and beautiful spaces. Yet, it is less common to hear someone mention doing a “self-renovation,” which is a process in which personal thought patterns, belief patterns and work habits are upgraded.

Renovations upgrade and update living spaces, and in a similar manner, self-renovation is a process that allows you the opportunity to reinvent your entire life. What could be more important that consistently being the best person you can be?

While it is usually easy to take a look at an outdated room and clearly envision how it can be improved, people tend to find it more difficult to take a look at their own selves and evaluate how they can become happier, healthier individuals.  There is no reason to feel as though you need to stay locked into your beliefs and routines from the past.

Here are some steps you can take to do a self-renovation:

1. Listen to your intuition

It is important as we go throughout life to listen to our intuition. Even when our conscious minds are preoccupied with day-to-day life, our intuition gives us guidance that is beneficial for our progress, success and happiness. So how do you know when your intuition is trying to give you guidance on how to reinvent your life? Our intuition constantly gives us ideas and suggestions, whether it is to become friends with a certain person, to go to a new place, or try a new hobby.

Try to always listen to that “little voice in your head.” This voice is there for a reason and will always be of benefit to you.  Your intuition seeks to move you towards deepening your overall quality of life.

2. Pay attention to your negative thoughts and feelings

We all have negative thoughts at some point. Instead of dwelling on these unpleasant feelings, try to use your negativity as a guidance system.  Many people suppress their negative thoughts and feelings. What is even worse is that often people cover up negative thoughts with bad habits or addictive behavior.

When you are feeling down and negative, pay attention and try to identify the triggers. What made you feel this way?  Ask yourself what actions or changes might make you feel better. It isn’t always easy to do this, but try to listen to these negative thoughts. They may give you tremendous insight into figuring out what you do want in life.  If you need help unraveling your negative thoughts, you might find great assistance in hiring a life coach.

3. Stay consistent to your new thoughts and ideas

Once you have had some inspiration on how to reinvent yourself, and have started to make new decisions and choices, you may find that other people are looking down on your decisions.   Remember, your life is lived by you and not other people. Often the reason other people put down your choices just reflects their own insecurities and weaknesses.

In some cases, you may find that you need to temporarily ignore some past friends and associates as you make changes and reinvent your life.  And if you lose friendships during the process, remember that this type of change is natural. Most people do end up losing friendships during different stages in life when they are growing and evolving.

Dreaming about changes you want to see and acting on these visions is part of the continuing journey of your life.  You have the freedom to constantly re-evaluate who you are and bring about change that will allow you to be a happier and more successful person. At different stages in your life, it is extremely wise to take a look at yourself and evaluate what steps you could take to improve things and reach your highest potential.

It is a good idea to be thankful for the experiences and beliefs you had in the past.  Just because it is time to reinvent yourself doesn’t mean that you were wrong or off-track in the earlier part of your life. After all, past thoughts and experiences made you the person you are today.  Once you start the process of self-renovation, you will find you can reach new goals and levels of success you previously would never have previously even dreamed possible.
